Two persons have died at the Keta Government Hospital while three others sustained various degrees of injury after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into the lagoon at Srogbe in the Keta Municipality.
The Toyota Camry car, with registration number GR-940-13, was approaching the bridge just before Savietula, a suburb along the Srogbe-Anloga road, when it somersaulted, veered off the highway and landed in the lagoon as a result of a brake failure.
The occupants, two of whom were said to be in critical conditions, were later confirmed dead after they had been rescued from the submerged car and rushed to the Keta Government Hospital through the efforts of residents in the community.
It took the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service some great skills and the support of some locals to pull out the accident car from the lagoon after several failed attempts.
The three who are injured are receiving treatment at the Keta Government Hospital.
The deceased, who are yet to be identified, have been transferred to the morgue of the same hospital.
Meanwhile, the police have launched investigations into the accident.
