Two persons charged for armed robbery

An Accra circuit court on Wednesday remanded Mumuni Bole and Mohammed Kadiri, both unemployed, into prison custody for conspiracy to rob and robbery, contrary to section 149 of the criminal offence Act 1960.

The accused persons, who pleaded not guilty, would re-appear before the court on August 21.

Madam Esi Dentaa Yankah, Assistant State Attorney, told the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that on June 7, 2011, at about 0400 hours, the complainant was in her shop at the Kokomba market when the accused persons came in and demanded at knife point that the complainant surrendered all her valuables.

She said the accused persons took from the complainant an amount of GHc3,500 cash in a paint bucket, a pair of jeans shorts valued at GHc50 and two Nokia mobile phones also valued at GHc150.

The Prosecution said the complainant was, however, bold enough to raise the alarm, and the accused persons took to their heels with all the items.

“Passers-by were attracted by the complainant’s shout for help, and chased the fleeing men, but were only able to apprehend the first accused person (Bole),” he added.

The Assistant State Attorney said Bole led the Police to the second accused (Kadiri), who said he had hidden the paint bucket containing the money, in a gutter.

However, she said, when the Police got there, the money was nowhere to be found, and upon interrogation, Bole said he could not remember where he hid the bucket.

“The money has since not been retrieved,” she noted.
