Two prison officers interdicted for convict's escape

The two prison officers form whose custody a convict escaped at an Accra High Court while awaiting trial for another offence, have been interdicted.

They are, Godfred kwabena Asah (5328) and Nana Appiah Kubi (8023). A press statement signed by the acting Director-General of Prisons, Michael Kofi Bansah, in Accra yesterday said that their interdiction follows their alleged complicity in the escape of the convict, 41 year old Yaw Asamoah on October 27.

The statement said that their interdiction would facilitate investigations into the matter during which they would not travel without permission of the officer in charge of the station.

Asamoah who was already serving 20 years imprisonment for robbery was in court to be tried for another offence of conspiracy to rob and robbery when he escaped from the court room.

The Prison Service has posted a reward of GH¢1,000 for the capture of Yaw Asamoah. Yaw Asamoha, a trader is said to be about 5ft 3inches tall, dark-brown in complexion and speaks Twi, Ga and English. He hails from Mpraeso-Kwahu in the Eastern Region and has a round face with multiple scars.
