Two Soldiers, who were alleged to have assaulted one Mohammed Abdul Fatau, were sentenced on Thursday to two years imprisonment.
They were also charged for conspiracy to commit crime and robbing various persons.
The two, AB II Dickson Reuben and AB II Mark Gwira Forkes, pleaded guilty to the charge of assault and were convicted on their own plea.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery and were remanded to reappear before the court on September 29.
Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick Morkeh told the court that on September 4, the Kwabenya District Police Command had information that three uniformed military personnel on board a taxi had arrested, handcuffed and beaten a young man in a taxi at Dome Pillar 2.
He said the police on receipt of the information were proceeding to the scene when they met the convicts and an angry mob that had besieged Haatso Westland Police post, with the convicts claiming they had gone there to handover the handcuffed man to the police.
He told the court that all of them were brought to the Kwabenya police command and during interrogation; it was revealed that the convicts attacked and assaulted the young man without any apparent reason.
According to the prosecution, at the charge office, one of the complainants, Daniel, came to the station and identified the convicts as having attacked and robbed him of his money, Ghc200.00, a wrist watch worth Ghc500.00 and personal items on September 4.
DSP Morkeh said on September 5, two other complainants also came and identified them as having attacked and robbed them of an amount of 2,200 Euros and Ghc1,000.00 and later abandoned them at Tema Motorway area and GIMPA.
Three other victims who had suffered similar attacks by the convicts also came and identified them during an identification parade.
He said efforts were however being made by the police to arrest their accomplice AB II Mohammed Iddrisu.
