The Ghana Police Service has disclosed that two thousand (2,000) general recruit applicants have qualified for the second phase of the recruitment exercise.
Having all passed out from the first stage, the next stage will now involve medical screening which will be done at the Police Hospital.
All qualified general recruit applicants have been categorised into groups, each numbering 250, and have been given dates to report for their respective medical screenings.
Public Affairs Director at the Police Headquarters, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman, said thousands of persons applied but only the first 2000 have been selected for now.
She told the Daily Graphic that the qualified applicants were sent letters inviting them to the next stage of the process.
She said the recruitment is not yet over, explaining that some professionals and graduates who applied have been put on the waiting list and will be contacted in due time.
According to her, the invited applicants will undergo tests in chest X-Ray, eye examination, blood grouping, physical examination, among others, as part of the second stage of the recruitment process.
Those who qualify for an enlistment after this stage will then be deployed into the various Police training schools for a six-month compulsory training, she added.
The government had projected to recruit 5,000 people into the Police Service to increase the police-citizen ratio, but that is yet to be realised, as the Police Administration is yet to receive clearance to enlist more people into the service.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has warned potential applicants to be wary of fraudsters who are always looking for people to dupe with the promise of enlisting them into the Police Service.
Mrs Abayie-Buckman urged potential applicants not to give money to anyone who claims that he or she will be able to get them enlisted.
She also warned that the Police Administration would not hesitate to deal with anyone caught engaging in any untoward act.
