Accra, Feb. 10, GNA - Two women filed their papers to contest for the position of president of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) when nominations closed on Tuesday.
A statement signed in Accra on Friday by Mr Benedict Assorow, Chairman of the GJA Elections Committee, said the incumbent, Ms Ajoa Yeboah-Afari, Editor of the Ghanaian Times and Ms Sarah Akrofi-Quarcoo, an Editor-in-Chief of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) filed their papers to contest for the presidency.
Two journalists of GBC - Mr Affail Monney, incumbent Deputy General Secretary and an Editor-in-Chief and Mrs Charity Binka, Chief Editor - filed to contest the position of Vice President. Ms Yaa Oforiwah Acquah, Senior Editor of the Ghana News Agency and Ms Esi Asante, Foreign Editor of the Ghanaian Times, filed to contest for Treasurer.
The statement said Mr Dave Agbenu, Editor-in-Charge of the Education Desk at Ghanaian Times and Mr Emmanuel Otuei Annancy, Editor of the Inter African Newspaper, filed for the post of Organising Secretary.
Mr Bright Blewu, incumbent General Secretary and Director of the Ghana International Press Centre, was the sole candidate for the post of General Secretary while Mr Matthew Mac-Kwame of the Ghana Institute of Journalism was also the sole candidate for the position of Public Affairs Officer.
The statement said the Elections Committee would issue a final statement next week after vetting the nominations.
