U.K based Obuasi Sikakrom Association donates books to Obuasi library

The Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi, Hon Elijah Adansi Bonah has lauded a U.K based group known as Obuasi “Sikakrom” Association for donating 41 boxes of books to the Obuasi library.

Receiving the books on behalf of the good people of Obuasi, Hon Adansi Bonah just like the character, “Oliver Twist” in Charles Dickens’s book, appealed for more help from indigenes from Obuasi in diaspora to the development of the mining town.

He also pledged to ensure that going forward; those who intend to donate certain items to the Municipality from abroad would not face any difficulties at the ports.

The Vice Chairman of the Obuasi “Sikakrom” Association, Mr. Isaac Asamoah said it has always been the dream of the association since its formation in London in 1999 to contribute to the development of Obuasi.

He continued that the books form part of plethora of things they have lined up for the people of Obuasi including computer keyboards and internet connectivity.

On his part, the Member of Parliament of the Obuasi East Constituency, Hon Boakye Yiadom thanked the group for their kind gesture.

He also paid glowing tribute to his predecessor, Hon Edward Ennin for putting up the ultra-modern library in 2016 from his share of the MP’s Common Fund.

The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Anthony Maxwell Obeng who could not hide his joy also thanked the Association for coming to the aid of the library.

He also advised parents to encourage their children to learn hard to ensure they benefit from the government’s free Senior High School Programme.

The Presiding Member for Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Madam Faustina Amissah, Assembly Members, Other Members of Obuasi “Sikakrom” Association and the media were also present to grace the occasion.
