UBA Foundation’s Read Africa Initiative has donated boxes of African Literature books to the Presbyterian Senior High School (Osu Presec) to commemorate this year’s International Book Giving Day at a short ceremony in Accra.

#BookGivingDay is celebrated globally as an initiative to increase children’s access to books and get books into as many hands as possible on February 14.
The books donated were titled ‘The Girl Who Can’ written by Ghana’s award-winning author, Ama Atta Aidoo, and 'The Fine Boy’ by Nigerian writer, Eghosa Imasuen.

Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Henry Nii Dottey at UBA led the team to present the books to Sophia Ampadu, Assistant Headmistress of Administration at Osu Presec during the ceremony.

Mr. Dottey said, “UBA Foundation has Education, Empowerment, and Environment as its focal areas and spends a lot on Corporate Social Responsibility budget in the area of Education. As Bank, education is an integral part of the Bank’s CSR programme.

“Our donation of books is envisioned to benefit the school’s library and push forward UBA Foundation’s aim of rekindling the dwindling reading habits among the young ones. And 14th February, also celebrated globally as ‘Book Giving day, we see it as a perfect opportunity to share these African literature books with the school.”

On her part, Mrs. Ampadu lauded UBA for their kind gesture and a donation towards cultivating reading habits among the youth. She gave an assurance that the books received will be used for the right purpose. She noted the books will greatly help the students to improve their vocabulary.
