Contractors of the newly completed School of Business Block at the University of Cape Coast, TACOA Construction Limited and Barony Company Limited, are praying the court to jail the Vice Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Joseph Ghartey and two others for what they describe as contempt of court.

According to them, Prof. Joseph Ghartey as well as Director of Physical Development, Philip Ntim; Head of Legal Section of the University, Solomon Faakye, have invaded the newly constructed block although the case is before court.

On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, the High Court presided over by Her Ladyship Patience Mills-Tetteh ruled that the case be transferred to the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Sophia Akuffo, in Accra.

She again dismissed a notion to put a mandatory injunction on the construction firm.

The contractor after completing the block withheld the keys to the facility due to non-payment on the part of school authorities.

Management of the university brought the matter before the Cape Coast High Court to urge the contractors to hand over the keys to the completed school block for use by students.

According to reports, Professor Joseph Ghartey, Philip Ntim and Solomon Faakye, allegedly broke into the facility thereby disregarding the court order which banned them from accessing the block.

A report by The Chronicle Newspaper stated that, a writ of summons by TACOA Construction Limited and Barony Company Limited is praying the court to convict the three persons to prison for grossly disobeying an earlier order by the Cape Coast High Court.
