UCC admits 1,281 students for sandwich programme

Cape Coast, June 4, GNA - A total of 1,281 students have gained admission to the 2009/2010 sandwich programme of the University of Cape Coast (UCC). Eight hundred and eighty one of the students are post-graduate applicants while 400 are undergraduates.

The fresh students, who took the Matriculation Oath on Thursday, wou ld undertake diploma, degree and

post-graduate programmes in business, physical science, social science, medical science, agriculture and

education. The Vice Chancellor of UCC, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang said

the university was getting

worried about the completion rate of the sandwich programmes, especially the masters' programmes. She said most of them start the programme with enthusiasm but relax midway, making it impossible for

them to complete in order to obtain the relevant qualifications. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the sandwich programme was designed to hel p workers whose work

schedule does not permit them to pursue higher education through the regu lar stream. She said the university cherished diversity of thought, which goes beyond racial, ethnic, socio-economic,

gender, religious and political differences in order to produce holistic scholars. She called on students to establish good study habits and make good use of facilities provided by the

university such as libraries and internet peripherals to make their acade mic work satisfactory. 4 June 10
