The Management of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has announced a significant change regarding the start of the 2024/2025 Academic Year.

In a press statement sighted by MyNewsGH, UDS confirmed that the reopening date, originally set for September 27, 2024, has been postponed indefinitely.

This decision comes in response to the ongoing industrial action involving several unions, including the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), the Senior Staff Association – Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), and the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union of the Trade Union Congress (TEWU-TUC).

These unions have been engaged in strikes that have disrupted academic service delivery across public universities in Ghana.

See the full statement below:

“The Management of the University for Development Studies (UDS) wishes to inform all Fresh and Continuing students and the general public that the reopening date for the 2024/2025 Academic Year, which was slated for September 27, 2024, has been postponed indefinitely.

“This is due to the ongoing industrial action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), the Senior Staff Association – Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), and the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union of the Trade Union Congress (TEWU-TUC) of Public Universities, which has affected academic service delivery in the University.

“All students and the general public will be informed about subsequent arrangements once the industrial action has been called off.

“Management sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused by this decision. Thank you.”
