Central Regional Minister and Chairman of the Central Regional Security Council (REGSEC) Kwamena Duncan has denied authorizing for the reopening of the University of Education, Winneba, less than 24 hours after it was closed.
The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo Markin who has been deeply involved in the happenings at the university, had publicly stated in media interviews and indicated on social media that the REGSEC has ordered the immediate reopening and that students should remain on campus.
But in an interview on Kasapa News, the Regional Minister categorically denied that claim insisting that the school remains closed.
“That decision was taken based on sound security judgment, it is not possible when we’ve gone to the campus in the morning to announce the closure of the school, in the evening of that same day we’ll turn round and say the school has reopened. No such announcement has been made and it there will be any such announcement it will come from the person who announced the closure.”
