Parents and guardians of learners at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Basic School in Ho were filled with tears of joy, looking at their children receiving awards for excellent academic performance at the school's 4th graduation and awards day event.

The children were awarded in the areas of overall best student (female and male categories) and best learner in various subjects, including mathematics, science, social studies, career technology, and English language.

Other awards were the best learner in the indigenous language (Ewe), the most disciplined learner, and the most academically progressed learner.

Both teaching and non-teaching staff were also awarded by the school for their roles in the school's growth.

At the ceremony held on Friday, August 9, 2024, the children also performed debates on drug abuse, campaigned for peaceful elections, and performed choreography and beauty pageants.

Parents and guardians at the ceremony were amazed at how the young ones played their roles eloquently in the English language, devoid of mistakes.

"I am overwhelmed by their performance; these kids are truly the future leaders of this country," an emotional parent said.

The president of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Humphrey Kwasi Ayim Darke, was the guest speaker.

He urged parents to invest in their children's education and also advised children to be obedient to become responsible people in the future.

He spoke on the areas of hard work and determination, using his personal story as an example to the young ones.

The ceremony was on the theme "Shaping our Tomorrow's Leaders Today."

In all, 25 learners graduated from kindergarten to primary 1 and a total of 18 graduated from basic 9 (JHS), awaiting their BECE results.

UHAS Basic School is one of the first-grade basic schools in the Volta Region.
