UNICEF's Financial Maestro, Thomas Asare, elevates global impact; appointed Assistant Secretary General of World Meteorological Organization

The University of Professional Studies Accra Global Alumni Association proudly extends its heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Thomas Asare, a distinguished alumnus, on his recent appointment as the Assistant Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization.

This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone in Mr. Asare's illustrious career and underscores the global recognition of his expertise in financial management.

For the past several years, Mr. Asare has served as the Comptroller and Director of the Division of Financial and Administrative Management at the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) headquarters in New York.

In this pivotal role, he has been instrumental in providing strategic guidance and oversight for UNICEF's global financial management, fiduciary management, administrative services, and operational management.

With over 25 years of experience as a finance and development executive, Mr. Asare has been a driving force behind the revitalization of financial and operational management on a global scale. His collaborative efforts with multi-constituency governance structures, governments, and international organizations have been crucial in crafting and implementing development strategies aimed at alleviating poverty and improving the lives of the world's most vulnerable population.

Prior to his tenure at UNICEF, Mr. Asare held key positions in financial management, program planning, management advisory, and assurance services, collaborating with esteemed international development organizations across Africa and Asia. His contributions to organizations such as the African Capacity Building Foundation, USAID/West Africa Regional Office, and the CGIAR in Malaysia reflect his unwavering commitment to excellence.

Mr. Asare's academic journey is equally impressive. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Financial Governance at the University of South Africa, he commenced his professional accountancy studies at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, in Ghana. His educational endeavors include earning a Master of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Northampton and a Master of Science in Audit and Consultancy from Birmingham City University, both in the United Kingdom.

As a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), Mr. Asare's professional credentials are exemplary. His extensive list of certifications and memberships, including those from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI), and the CFA Institute, showcases his dedication to continuous professional development.
