US Mayor meets AMA Mayor

Accra, March 30, GNA - Mr. Ronnie Lewis, Mayor of Dolton, in Illinois, United States, on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuje, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, in an effort to cement sister relationship between the two cities.

Dr. Vanderpuije lauded Mr. Lewis decision to collaborate with Accra. He also praised the United Nations and the Earth Institute for their decision to adopt Accra as a Millennium City.

"This decision would in no small way improve upon the status of Accra and also woo more investments," he said.

He expressed appreciation for the decision by the Mayor of Dolton, to invite some members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) for capacity building training in the US as part of the Sister City relationship. "Next month, the Presiding Member with some assembly members would visit South Carolina on an exchange programme aimed at building their capacity," he stressed.

Dr. Vanderpuije said the AMA had embarked on a programme, which aimed at raising six million cedis for the provision of more classrooms in an effort to put a stop to the shift system currently been practiced by some public schools in the city.

Mr. Lewis who was on his second visit to Ghana expressed his willingness to assist develop Accra and woo to investors to Accra. "I am very happy about the desire of Accra to develop. I will do all I can to help woo investors for this city," he said.
