An ultramodern Business Advisory/Resource Centre (BAC) has been commissioned and handed over to the West Gonja Municipal Assembly of the Savannah Region at a brief ceremony in Damongo on 17th June, 2020.
The project which is under the Youth in Entrepreneurship Programme was funded by the African Development Bank at the cost of GHc 2,140,492.32.
The Chief Executive (MCE) for the West Gonja Municipal Assembly, Hon. Saeed Muhazu Jibril speaking at the ceremony commended the contractor Jonacom Company Limited for executing the project
within the nine (9) months stipulated time earmarked for the project to be completed.
The MCE said the resource centre will aid the growth of local businesses and create jobs for the youth not only in the Damongo Municipality but also the entire Savannah Region since the center is opened to train them to go into business world.
The centre according to Mr Muhazu Jibril will promote economic activities towards job creation and reduce the rate of poverty in the municipality and beyond.
He added that he was worried initially at the slow pace at which the contractor was executing the project as compared to what he saw in other districts where similar projects were ongoing but after speaking to the consultant, the contractor was able to speed up in the completion of the project at the stipulated time period.
Mr Saeed thanked President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo for what he has done for the West Gonja Municipality
since the municipality was among the few beneficiaries of the project in the country.
Mr Alidu Ewura, West Gonja Municipal Director of the Business Advisory Center (BAC) of the Rural Enterprises project (REP) expressed satisfaction about the project and assured the everybody present that his outfit will ensure the edifice will be properly taken care of.
The consultant to the project, Mr. Samuel Opata also speaking at the handing over ceremony said that in line with government’s policy of assisting Small, Medium and Large scale businesses geared towards the taking off of the One District- One Factory (1D-1F), the centre will provide all the necessary support to people who want to start new businesses and help improve on the few existing ones.
He assured the West Gonja Municipal Assembly that a fence wall which was not part of the project will be constructed later to protect the beautiful edifice with some office materials such as tables, chairs etc on the way within the coming days to fully furnish the place.
The project which has 14 offices including washroom facilities, kitchen. Apart from the Damongo Municipality in the Savannah Region, Sagnerigu and Yendi Municipalities in the Northern region are the other beneficiaries of similar projects which are 30 nationwide.
The handing over ceremony had in attendance the Municipal Coordinating Director, staff of the West Gonja Municipal Assembly and some executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Damongo Constituency.
