The Unemployed Graduates with Disability has called off its intended demonstration after the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations intervened to respond to their concerns.

A statement signed by Mr Dotse Koffigah and Isaac Yeboah Afari, leaders of the group and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said the postponement was necessitated after a successful meeting with Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the sector Minister on September 18.

The statement said after the meeting, the Minister assured them of government support to employ persons with disabilities and would ensure that those persons with disability who were called for interview at the Youth Employment Agency are given appointments.

The outcome of the meeting indicated that the Ministry would ensure that the necessary policy directive is issued to the board and management of the Agency on the matter, and that, action will be taken on the subject by October1, 2015.

The meeting concluded that the sector Minister would issue a policy directive on the employment of persons with disability in the country, based on the proposal to be submitted by the Ghana Federation of the Disabled, especially the 5000 jobs for persons with disability promised in the President’s nation's address for 2015.

The group commended government for the swift intervention and thanked the public for their support in advocating the employment of persons with disabilities in the country.
