Kumasi, May 8, GNA - A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced an ex-girlfriend of a Community Protection Officer of the Ghana Police Service to 36 months imprisonment for torching all his personal effects in his room.
Monica Quansah, unemployed, who pleaded guilty to causing unlawful damage, was convicted on her own plea. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour Kyei, told the court presided over by Mr. Amoh Yartey that the officer resides at Maxima-Ayigya whilst Monica resides at Bomso, all in Kumasi. She explained that the two engaged in an amorous relationship for eight months because the lady was giving the complainant problems. Monica who was offended as a result, broke into the officer's room and collected all his belongings and sent them to her house. A report was made to Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) and the matter was settled so the complainant's belongings were handed over to him.
However, Monica who apparently was not satisfied with the settlement on April 28, set the room of the complainant ablaze when he left for a cinema centre to watch a football match. Monica, after the act, tried to leave the house unnoticed but was spotted by a witness, in the case, who informed the officer. Chief Inspector Baffour Kyei said he, therefore, made a report to the police leading to her arrest. In her caution statement, she admitted the offence.
