Unemployment jailed 10 years for defiling 12-year-old girl

Juaso (Ash), March 7, GNA - The Juaso Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Jacob Boon has sentenced a 22-year-old unemployed to 10 years' imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 12-year-old pupil. Kofi Acheampong pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea. Superintendent Francis Oppong, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant of the case, Janet Amankwa was the mother of the victim and lived together with the accused at Juaso. He said the accused, who reportedly proposed love to the victim, had on several occasions been warned by the girl's mother to stay away from her. The prosecutor said on February 4, around 0700 hours while the victim was in her mother's room preparing to leave for school, the accused entered the room through the window and forcibly had sex with the girl and cautioned her not to tell her mother about it. However, the girl became sick a few days later and was taken to hospital where it was detected that she had been defiled. She was interviewed and she mentioned the accused as the culprit.
