Bawjiase (C/R), Jan. 29,GNA - Unicart Club, a Christian charity organisation, on Saturday donated items worth eight million cedis to the Countryside Orphanage at Bawjiase in the Central Region.
The items included bags of rice, soap, packets of biscuit, toilet rolls, loaves of bread and a cash of three million cedis.
Presenting the items, Nii Akortey IV, Chief of Bortianor and Patron of the Club, said the donation formed part of their social services intended to bring relief to the underprivileged.
He gave the assurance that the Club would further mobilise resources to expedite work on a Junior Secondary School currently under construction to facilitate quality education at the Orphanage.
The Reverend Albert Asante, Associate Pastor of Victory Bible Church, said it was imperative for society to accept the responsibility to help bring up orphans to ensure that they earned decent living.
He noted that if the fates of the less privileged in society were left in their hands they would grow to become deviants and eventually terrorise mankind.
"Lets us show this unfortunate ones love and care and help them to grow to become responsible adults," he said.
Mrs Emma Yeboah, Founder of the Orphanage, expressed appreciation to the Club for the gesture and said the home that began with six children now had 120 of them.
She said as a result of the rapid increase in the number there was the need to expand the infrastructure and to recruit quality social workers.
