Pepsodent, a brand from Unilever Ghana has marked this year’s celebration of World Oral Health Day with over 2000 school children across the country.
The company held a durbar at the International Trade Fair center to educate school children about the essence of oral health care. This event is part of Pepsodent and Unilever’s corporate social responsibility.
The theme for the 2017 celebration was “Live Mouth Smart” which connotes the idea of keeping a healthy mouth and fresh breath, which helps to build confidence in individuals. The event stressed on the importance of oral health to the development of education in Africa.
Addressing the gathering, Managing Director of Unilever Ghana, Yeo Ziobeieton, stated Unilever, producers of Persodent toothpaste is working tirelessly to change the behavior of people, mainly children towards brushing their teeth and the importance of having a better oral health.
He stated that, Pepsodent is aiming at reaching 25 million children face to face in Africa with oral health improvement programs by the year 2020.
Minister for Health, Hon. Kweku Agyemang Manu, highlighted the dangers involved in not practicing healthy oral lifestyle. He urged the school children to have their teeth brushed twice daily to avoid diseases related to poor dental care.
He commended Unilever and its partners for their effort in healthy oral care.
President of the Ghana Denatal Association, Dr. Asante Appiah mentioned that, it has become very important for people to take full responsibility for their oral health, so as to enjoy a healthy mouth from childhood into old age. He explained that brushing twice with a toothpaste like Pepsodent, containing fluoride frees one from the pain associated with oral disease.
There was also a launch of Pepsodent’s electronic media driven campaign called “Little Brush Big Brush”. The 21 day behavioral change campaign is aimed at helping children build a better tooth brushing habit.
The event saw oral health drama and cultural display from students. The children together with dignitaries took a pledge and practiced how to brush appropriately.
