Union commends photographers for crime detection

Accra, Jan 11, GNA - Photographers were on Wednesday commended for their role in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry, which had contributed immensely to the safety of society world-wide.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of professional photographers in Accra on Wednesday, Mr. Dan Jim Selassie, Chairman of Ghana Union of Professional Photographers (G.U.P.P) said photography and videography, through ICT had led to detection of crime as well as capturing events pictorially that were educative, informative and entertaining. Mr. Selassie, who was speaking at the third photo school graduation ceremony said photography was one of the most effective tools in the media that helped in nation-building for mass mobilization through its language that everybody understood.

He said that although the union was faced with lack of equipment and logistics problems it would continue to train the youth as far as photography was concerned

He said the union would showcase Gold Coast and Ghana in the biggest Photo Exhibition next year to commemorate the nation's 50th anniversary. Mr A.T.D. Okine, General Secretary of Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of TUC said the photography profession was important and recognized as a noble one, upsurging in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) age. Mr Okine urged the new photographers, who passed out to inject new ideas into the profession to promote the growth and development of the industry.

The union awarded Certificate to 32 graduands, made up of three ladies and 29 gentlemen.
