Union signs peace declaration

A four-year court battle within the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) branch of the University of Education (south campus), Winneba, ended on Wednesday with the signing of a declaration to ensure there is peace within it.

The signing, made soon after the election of new executives, was ordered by the Agona Swedru High Court, to end a conflict over mistrust and electoral issues against the old executives who also appended their signatures together with the new.

Mr. John Adjei-Abekah, Agona Swedru Municipal Labour Officer, who supervised the signing and the election, will sometime next week submit to the court the declaration which also confirmed that the election was transparent, free and fair.

During the polls, Mr. James Marshall Buah was elected Chairman with 298 votes to beat Mr. Thomas Dabriboyen Ziem (rpt, Dabriboyen ZIem).

Madam Theresa Ackon was elected Vice Chairman whiles Mr. Ebenezer Ofori Atta was elected Secretary. Mr. Abraham Otoo Teye went unopposed to retain his assistant secretaryship.

Madam Anthonita Mensah was elected Trustee.

Earlier, Mr. Augustine Saakuur-Karbo (Saakuur-Karbo), Deputy General Secretary of TEWU, said that the election was part of the democratic process to promote peace and tranquility, as a means of creating a congenial atmosphere for work and happiness.

Mr. Saakuur-Karbo said calls for co-operation and love towards each other, ensuring that they explore all avenues for settlement of differences without resorting to court action.

Mr. Peter K. Lumor, National Chairman of TEWU, congratulated them, adding that, they should work hard to achieve the aims and objectives for which they were elected.
