Unit Committee calls for review of teachers appointment

Atuna (B/A) Aug. 23, GNA - Members of the Unit Committee at Atuna in Jaman South District of Brong Ahafo have expressed dissatisfaction with the mode of appointment of pupil teachers and called for a review of the process. They emphasised in an interaction with newsmen in Atuna that the criteria for the appointment were too high and a review would help to save some less endowed schools from collapse due to lack of teachers.

"There are lots of sixth form leavers, Ordinary level and SSS graduates who are unemployed and doing practically nothing. They can be mobilized as pupil teachers since they are the same kind of teachers who teach students in private schools to excel", the committee members maintained.

Mr. Kwame Ankamah, Organiser, said a review in the appointment of pupil teachers would help curb moral decadence, deviancy, juvenile delinquency and all sorts of anti-social problems. "Poverty compels the youth to indulge in unhealthy practices and their engagement will even help them to study to better their grades for admission into training colleges," he added.
