The alumni of Unity Hall also known as ‘CONTI’ of the KNUST have sworn to remove the Vice chancellor of the school and Education Minister Mathew Opoku as past members of the hall over their roles in the ongoing halls’ conversion saga.
According to the leadership of the Unity Hall alumni, the two former members of the hall have betrayed the hall with their actions.
It comes on back of the recent letter from the education minister asking the authorities of the KNUST to reconsider their decision to convert the Kantanga Hall from a male hall into a mixed one.
Both Unity and Katanga were all-male Halls until a recent decision by the school authorities to convert them into a mixed Hall in order to promote Maths and Science studies among female students.
The conversion which is being resisted by the students of the hall is before a court and the Asantehene for intervention.
Speaking on the Morning Starr Monday, lawyer for Unity hall association Tetteh Wayo told Francis Abban that they will resist any attempt by the education minister to discriminate against their Hall.
“We petitioned the Education Ministry but we noticed they won’t do anything about it and so we headed to court. There’s miscarriage because the judge didn’t keep the status quo. The judgement by the court suggests that the judge has technically converted the halls and we won’t allow that to happen.
“We are patiently waiting for Otumfuo’s judgement. We strip Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Obiri Yeboah of their membership and link to the hall. We want Mr. Opoku Prempeh to stay neutral if anything at all. I don’t think he was a true affiliate of the Unity Hall”.
