Universal Merchant Bank embarks on health screening exercise

The Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), formerly Merchant Bank has embarked on a three-day public health screening exercise within the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Mr Stephen Ped Andam, Head of Sales, Business and Intelligence of UMB, said the bank is not only concentrating on the financial aspect of the business but the health and well-being of clients, who are the main-stay of the company’s survival.

He said it is important that people stay in healthy conditions to enable them to work hard, earn some income and save towards the future.

He said the screening exercise is one way of meeting the healthy lifestyles. Mr Andam noted that similar screening exercise had taken place in the Greater Accra Region and Tema and said it would be giving nationwide coverage.

He said contrary to public expectation that the UMB would lose customers as a result of the negative report about it in recent times, “We have rather increased our customer base.”

Mr Andam encouraged the public to have confidence in the bank and transact business with it. He said the health experts, made up of medical doctors, nurses and paramedics would offer health counseling and screen for diseases such as hypertension and diabetes while they would refer the serious cases to the hospitals.
