Students of the University of Ghana have commended the Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his impactful contributions to the development of the nation as Vice President.

At a book review and reading of "Dr. Bawumia and the Modern Vice Presidency," by Prof. Etse Sikanku on the university campus on Friday, various speakers, including several students, applauded Dr. Bawumia for his focus and commitment to leading a number of initiatives they said were impacting the nation positively.

From the nation's National Identity System, the Ghana card, to digitalisation and the delivery of essential medical supplies to remote communities in real-time through drones, the students were full of praise and admiration for the NPP Flagbearer.

"One impact of Dr. Bawumia is digitalisation. For example, it used to be difficult to access certain services, but now, you just sit at home, in your room and you easily access certain services. He has done so well," Samir, a student at the university, said.

Another student, who identified himself as Mills, said, "In just under 8 years of his leadership as Vice President, we have seen a transformation of Ghana as a technologically advanced country."

"The Ghana card, which he has committed himself to, has really been transformative as it has been the bedrock of Ghana's digitalisation drive. The drones delivering drugs to villages is also something that he deserves lots of credit for pushing," added Mills.

Another student, Augustine, expressed his admiration for Dr. Bawumia for how he was ready to adapt from being a banker to a politician, and served well, despite not having enough time to prepare.

"He is someone who was not into politics and he was called to serve. He took that as an opportunity and he has been able to serve very well. So, for me, he inspired me. As a young man, he had the drive and passion to accept to be in an area he was not even prepared to be. Despite not being prepared, he got in and he has delivered and look at where he is today," Augustine stressed.

Another student, Ebenezer Addai, commended Dr. Bawumia for his tolerance and ability to reach out to Christians, in spite of his background as a Muslim.

"Considering his background as a Muslim, I admire his sense of unity in reaching out to people who don't belong to his religion," Ebenezer Addai noted.

"I remember even some Muslims were attacking him for being too close to Christians, but he remained calm and continued to reach out. I think this is the kind of leadership we need as a country."

For Joshua, he identified the Sinohydro projects as one of the impactful initiatives of Dr. Bawumia.

"I think as Vice President, he has led many initiatives. I am very happy with how he led the Sinohydro projects, which have helped the development of many communities across the country with roads.

"I don't know anybody politically. But I am a man of conviction and deep down in my heart, I believe strongly that Dr. Bawumia is a vessel for a transformative Ghana that we are all looking for."
