Political communication expert, Prof Godwin Etse Sikanku has stated that the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has shown that he is personally invested in the choice of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), hence his personal endorsement of him.

Prof Sikanku explained that the Asantehene speech following the presentation of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to him by the NPP as the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, clearly points to a personal endorsement of his candidature.

“…It was a speech that endorsed NAPO [Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh] and he went to great lengths to show that he was personally invested in the candidate,” he said on Joy News after the official unveiling of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as NPP’s running mate.

Dr. Etse Sikanku added that the unveiling of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh in the Ashanti Region, where he hails from and the stronghold of the NPP, is an innovative way of healing wounds and reconciling factions within the party after the lobbying for the selection of a running mate.

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu had advised Dr. Opoku Prempeh to support his boss, Dr. Bawumia, and work hard to ensure that they succeed in the upcoming general elections.
