Collins Dauda, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South Constituency in the Ahafo Region and a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly criticized politicians who resort to vote-buying tactics to hold onto power during elections.

He described such politicians as poor role models for society and unworthy of public recognition.

Speaking in an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s morning news on Thursday, August 22, 2024, the former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources expressed his disapproval of politicians who prioritize their political interests over the needs of the electorate. He argued that these individuals use vote-buying strategies because they have failed to deliver on their promises to the people.

"If you have truly delivered and met the needs of the people, there should be no need to buy votes. The people will naturally show their appreciation by voting for you," Dauda stated.

He questioned why politicians would need to rely on such tactics if they had genuinely improved the lives of their constituents by providing essential infrastructure like roads, hospitals, and schools.

Dauda further criticized the practice of distributing items such as corn dough, Maggi cubes, corn flour, and money to voters in an attempt to sway their votes.

He urged voters to focus on their developmental needs when casting their ballots in the upcoming December 7 general elections, advising them to choose leaders who genuinely care about their welfare rather than those who try to buy their votes.

"Vote for politicians who are committed to development, not those who seek to buy your votes," he concluded.
