The Upper West Regional House of Chiefs has commended the government of President Akufo-Addo, and the role of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for the significant impact of the Free SHS policy in Ghana.
As part of his campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia visited the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs in Wa on Monday to discuss his vision and policies for Ghana under his leadership.
In a welcome address, the President of the House, Naa Dikomwine Domalee, Dafiama Naa, recognized the positive effects of the Free SHS policy in the region, noting that "every parent can testify to its benefits."
"On behalf of the Chiefs and people of the Upper West Region, we congratulate you and your government for the flagship programs that have been implemented," said the President of the House. "We are grateful to the government for addressing many challenges associated with the Senior High School policy, making education affordable and accessible to all Ghanaians, regardless of their social and economic status. Parents with wards in Senior High Schools, as well as trainee nurses and teachers, can attest to this."
The Regional House of Chiefs also praised the government for other impactful initiatives from which the region has greatly benefited.
"The fertilizer subsidy and the supply of inputs to farmers have positively impacted the lives of the people in the region. Our region has the distinction of having the largest number of beneficiaries under the Planting for Food and Jobs program," the House acknowledged.
While lauding the government, the House also appealed for attention to some key roads in the region that are in poor condition.
In addition to commending the government, the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs praised the NPP Flagbearer for his honesty and transparency.
"Your principles, honesty, accountability, and transparency in governance, as well as your devotion to duty, are positive qualities that will benefit your future endeavours. We are very proud of you," said the President of the House.
