Upper West takes delivery of Waste management trucks

Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, the Upper West Regional Minister, has taken delivery of 10 waste management trucks and 38 refuse containers for distribution to the Municipal and District Assemblies in the region.

The trucks and equipment, whose acquisition was facilitated by ZoomLion, would be shared among the Wa Municipal and the eight district assemblies in the region.

They would help in overcoming the waste management and sanitation challenges facing the assemblies.

In a brief address at the handing over ceremony in Wa on Thursday, Alhaji Sulemana urged the Assemblies to fashion out clear plans on waste management and sanitation in terms of short, medium and long term objectives and activities.

He said efforts of the government would be a mirage if Municipal and District Assemblies did not play their roles effectively.

Mr. Emmanuel Volsuri, Upper West regional Manager of Zoomlion said waste management challenges facing the nation should be attributed to the attitude of the citizens and not that the country lacked the capacity to address them.

“All efforts to manage waste have not been sustainable because of the peoples’ attitude towards sanitation. You clean a place now and the next moment it is littered with refuse,” he said.**
