On assumption of office, the Hon. Minister for Defence, Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor immediately embarked on a familiarization tour of all the Garrisons in the Ghana Armed Forces. In the course of his tour, he observed with grave concern the deplorable state of most of the structures (accommodation, medical reception stations, office buildings etc) in the various Garrisons. He therefore embarked on a massive rehabilitation programme and construction of new structures including the Burma Hall and Library Complex and the continuation of the 37 Military Hospital rehabilitation project.
As a follow up to these, he has launched another massive and urgent renovation works in all the Garrisons in the country to address the deterioration, which were observed, on his inspection tour. This renovation programme will cover mostly accommodation for officers and men of the Ghana Armed Forces, upgrading electricity supply, provision of street lights and renovation of sewerage lines. This current programme which begins immediately, constitutes the first phase of the entire project.
The main aim of the programme is to improve the living standards and boost the morale of military personnel in the country.
