Use $200m new 450-seat chamber money to fix rickety Pra bridge - Commuters to government

Some motorists who ply the Obuasi-Kumasi to New Edubiase and Oda routes have called on the government to fix the broken and dilapidated bridge that links those towns across the Pra River since it has become a death trap and a looming disaster.

According to the motorists, instead of using $200 million to put up a new 450-seat chamber for the legislature, some of that money could be channeled into reconstructing the Pra bridge to avert future disaster.

The bridge, according to the residents, is in such a poor state that motorists who use it on a daily basis do so at the peril of their lives

In a short video about the bridge, which has been widely circulated on social media, passengers are compelled to disembark on one side of the bridge so that their cars cross the shaky bridge empty. The passengers then cross the bridge on foot to the other side and then get on board their cars again.

Some boys are seen in the video directing both the pedestrians and vehicles to safely cross the rickety bridge.

One of the commuters who videoed the scene, said: “Our leaders are seeing this bridge and yet go to sit in parliament to consider building a new chamber while the ordinary Ghanaian who voted them into power suffers daily.

“The lives of the people who voted them into power are equally important. The $200 million chamber idea must be aborted and the money used to reconstruct such bridges.”
