Broadcast Journalist with Accra-based Adom FM, Captain Godsbrain Blessed Smart has observed that Ghana’s First Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu is indeed drawing salary and having nothing to show for his appointment.

He stated that the office of the Special Prosecutor headed by Mr. Amidu is gradually becoming useless after a little over year of its establishment by the Akufo-Addo led government.

Captain Smart indicated that Mr.Amidu should have performed creditably by prosecuting corrupt former and current government officials without any biases looking at his political affiliation adding that the office has lost its relevance.

‘The Office of the Special Prosecutor is gradually becoming useless, we are wasting a lot of money on this office. I wonder if Martin Amidu takes his salary, what has he done to take salary?,’ he questioned.

A livid Captain Smart said the necessary things that will make the Office of the Special Prosecutor relevant was put in place by the government including appointment of a deputy, a backing law from Parliament , provision of an office, a team of lawyers and investigators to support him yet he’s unable to deliver.

Exposing Mr Amidu on his show monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Captain Smart said the former Auditor General Prof. Agyeman Duah presented some investigative documents to the former but rejected it when he visited his office.

He demanded answers from the presidency as to why the Special Prosecutor refused to work on the said documents.

The Special Prosecutor who is yet to go to court with any corrupt case has for some months been criticized by the public including the leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for not meeting the expectations of Ghanaians, a move Captain Smart described as ‘laughable’.

According to him, the attempts by the Communication team of NPP to have update from Mr Amidu indicates that the government has failed the corruption fight fearing the Office of the Special Prosecutor will be a waste if care is not taken.

‘Is it true that former Auditor General Prof. Agyeman Duah presented an investigative documents to Martin Amidu and he rejected it? I’m asking from the Presidency, is it true that Martin Amidu refused to work on the documents?. It’s laughable for the NPP communications team to question Martin Amidu on what he’s up to, is CPP government in power now, ‘he asked.

He blasted Mr Amidu for not being able to meet the public and anti-graft groups’ expectation of prosecution current and former government officials who are perceived to have embezzled State funds.

He expressed disappointment in Mr Amidu who tags himself as citizen vigilante for concentrating only on business mogul Alfred Agbesi Woyome’s case when he could have diverted some of his energies on other corruption related cases.

He wondered why Mr Amidu has not been replaced by the government.

‘Where is the result- oriented Nana Addo I know, I know who he is but I’m not seeing the action, the fire that existed in Nana Addo I’m not seeing it, why hasn’t he replaced Martin Amidu,’ he asked.
