V/R GPRTU elects officials

Sogakope, Aug. 2, GNA - The Volta Regional Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) on Friday elected a four-member Executive under the chairmanship of Mr. Moses Davor, who until his election was the Chairman of the Akatsi branch '3' of the Union.

Mr Davor and his team of three other officers were elected unopposed at the regional delegates conference of the Union at Sogakope attended by delegates from 47 of the 56 branches.

The other executives who would be in office with Mr Davor for four years are Mr Peter Ketor, Vice-Chairman of Nkwanta branch who becomes the new Regional Vice-Chairman, Mr. Edward Fiator, Chairman Ho branch two and Mr Van Seshie Torblu, Chairman of Ho branch one are the First and Second regional Trustees respectively.

Mr Davor, was for the past five months, Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of the Regional Branch following a directive by a Ho High Court now trying a case of alleged abuse of office by Mr Emmanuel Amenyo, the former Regional Chairman. Mr Davor pledged to eliminate rampant litigation among the ranks of the Union and to form working committees to decentralise responsibilities.

He said he would mobilise resources to complete the regional office building, improve the revenue base of the Union and called on members to stop joining splinter groups.

Mr Maxwell Akoto-Mireku, Volta Regional Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) deplored the lukewarm attitude of the Volta Regional Branch of the GPRTU towards TUC activities, and reminded the union to settle its 11 million cedis debt of unpaid dues to the mother Union. He advised members to desist from resorting to the courts over their disagreements.

Mr. Daniel Eworyi, South-Tongu District Chief Executive (DCE) said government appreciated the role of the GPRTU in the country's development and urged the Union to curb indiscipline among its ranks. The elections were supervised by officials of Volta Regional office of the Electoral Commission, while Mr Egyin Ansah, Deputy General-Secretary of the GPRTU swore the Executives into office.
