VCC commends Ghanaians for peaceful elections

Kumasi, Dec. 12, GNA- The Voltarian Co-ordinating Council (VCC) has commended Ghanaians for the orderly and matured manner they conducted Themselves during the just ended presidential and parliamentary elections.

Togbe S.K. Fugah, Chairman of the VCC who made the commendation said the comportment of the electorate, resulted in a peaceful and successful elections, which has sent signals to countries in Africa and the international community, that Ghana was now matured in the practice of multi-party democracy.

Togbe Fugah made the commendation in a briefing with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi on Sunday, on measures that could be adopted to further strengthen Ghana's democratic system.

He used the occasion to also congratulate President J.A. Kufuor and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for wining the general elections as well as the losing political parties for actively participating in the process to sustain the democratic dispensation.

Togbe Fugah urged the losers to take the defeat "in good faith and with good grace".

He advised them not to be discouraged but rather re-organise and strategise from now onwards and intensify their activities at all levels, rather than waiting till election time to do so.

Togbe Fugah also appealed to the President to explore all avenues to ensure unity amongst all groups in the country.

He stressed that priority should be given to devising strategies for ensuring unity of purpose amongst Ghanaians since it is only when the country is genuinely united that the progress of the nation and development agenda could easily be implemented.
