VR Road Safety begins campaign for crash-free Easter

Officials of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) in Volta Region Monday began a week’s road check to ensure crash-free Easter.

The officials with the support of the Police, Fire Service and other stakeholders are checking speeding, over loading and road worthiness of vehicles on major roads in the Region.

A special taskforce is on the Ho-Accra, Ho-Fume, Ho-Aflao and Ho-Hohoe roads, described as accident prone routes in the Region.

Separate teams have also been deployed to churches and other places of worship to ‘preach’ safety on the road apart from regular radio sensitization programmes.

Mr Sebastian Acheampong, Volta Regional Manager of the Commission in an interview with GNA emphasized the need for drivers to drive defensively and look out for other road users.

Last year, a similar exercise yielded positive result with the Region not recording any significant road crash during the Easter celebration.

The Region recorded 16 deaths in 90 crashes in the last two months.
