Participants at the end of a three-day Volta Regional Investment Conference in Ho have attributed the low investment in the region to the lack of support from leaders towards the promotion of investment.
In a communiqu?, the participants observed that there had been three previous investment conferences since 1983 aimed at promoting investment in the region but those had not yielded the desired results.
They have accordingly recommended the restructuring of the Volta Trust towards making it serve as a vehicle for setting in motion moves to remedy the situation.
The participants identified land as one of the major obstacles that ought to be removed to pave way for investment in the region.
They have therefore, recommended that land in the region should be used as equity in any investment.
A website should also be created to market the investment potentials of the region.
A serious lack of banking facilities was also identified as one of the obstacles to the development of small-scale investments in the region.
Participants observed that presentations at the conference were general and failed to address the main focus of the conference, which was the way forward for investment in the region. However such presentations were excellent in their contents.
It was also observed that most of the presenters could not pronounce the local names showing a lack of knowledge about the region for which reason it was recommended that a website be developed on the pronunciation of names of places in the region.
The participants also called for the development of the only cultural theatre in the region to serve as a place for training the youth in the region to appreciate their culture.
