VRA, TICO complete water project for Abuesi.

Abuesi (W/R), May 19, GNA - A 40-million-cedi water project to alleviate perennial water problems of Abuesi, a fishing community in the Shama Ahanta East Metropolis, was commissioned at Abuesi on Thursday. The Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Takoradi International Company (TICO) engaged in thermal power production at Aboadze jointly funded the project.

The project, which began a few months ago, involved the extension of pipe borne water from the thermal power site to the town through Aboadze.

Commissioning the project Mr Stephen Doku, a Director of VRA at the Thermal Power Generation Department, said the completion of the project is a further demonstration of the two companies' commitment to help to improve the lives of the people.

Already TICO and VRA have spent millions of cedis to provide schools, a cold store, and public places of convenience, roads and a hospital to some communities in the area.

Mr. Augustine Nyamekye, Assembly member for Aboadze, thanked the two institutions for their support and said the completion of the project would enhance the lives of the people.

In another development, VRA on Wednesday presented a cheque for three million cedis to support activities at the Ghana Navy Trade Training School (NTTS) at the Sekondi Naval Base.

Mr Doku, who presented the cheque, said the donation was in response to an appeal from the school for assistance to enhance its programmes. Receiving the cheque, Commodore Samuel V. A. Coomson, the officer in charge of NTTS, thanked VRA for the donation.
