VRA deputy chief visits Mepe to assess condition of safe havens, secure new land site for resettlement

Deputy Chief Executive (Services), Ing. Kenneth Arthur visited to Mepe, in the North Tongu District to assess the condition of the safe havens and to secure a new land site for the construction of resettlement houses to accommodate individuals affected by the 2023 Akosombo and Kpong Dam Controlled Spillage.

The visit forms part of the Authority's unwavering commitment to the well-being and health of the persons affected by the spillage.

As part of the visit, Ing. Arthur also paid a courtesy call on Torgbe Korsi Nego, the Mankrado of Mepe Traditional Area.

He was joined by the North Tongu District Chief Executive, Osborn Fenu, Deputy Director General (Technical and Reforms) NADMO, Mr Seji-Saji, Traditional Representatives, among others.

DCE(s) emphasized the endearing partnership between the VRA, Mepe and the communities impacted by the Authority’s operations, assuring them of the Authority's commitment to maintaining this mutual relationship.

Additionally, he affirmed the Authority's dedication to the welfare of those impacted by the Controlled spillage, hence the need to construct resettlement facilities to ensure their comfort.

On his part, Torgbe Korsi Nego, the Mankrado of the Mepe Traditional Area, commended the VRA for its proactive initiative, indicating that it was timely and greatly needed by the affected residents.

He further urged the Authority to sustain their humanitarian efforts to ensure the welfare and comfort of his people.

Osborn Fenu, the DCE of North Tongu, stated that the government is implementing measures to ensure the restoration of the livelihood of the people as well as improving road access to the various safe havens in Mepe.

The team inspected several established resettlement facilities, such as the Citi FM pavilion and Safe Alternative Housing.
