Valco Trust assists UCC with students' accommodation

Constructional work on a four-storey students hostel to provide accommodation for about 250 post-graduate students at the University of Cape Coast has began.

The 3.5 billion cedi building, is being funded by the Valco Fund, with the University footing the remaining cost. The Chairman of the Fund, Mrs Miranda Greenstreet, at a commemorative tree planting ceremony to mark the beginning of construction said it is the desire of the Fund to help in promoting education in the country, especially in the area of science and technology. The assistance she added is therefore geared towards ensuring that as many researchers as possible, are trained at the country's universities, to facilitate research work.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Adjepong, expressed gratitude to the Fund and said the provision of adequate accommodation for students, has been one of the major problems of the university. The project will be completed in 18 months will provide accommodation for more than half the number of post-graduate students on campus
