Accra, Dec. 17, GNA - Pope Benedict XVI on Friday named Reverend Monsignor Peter Paul Angkyier, Former Vicar General of Damongo Diocese of the Catholic Church as the new Bishop for the Diocese in the Northern Region.
This was contained in a release from the Apostolic Nunciature in Ghana by Archbishop Leon B. Kalenga, Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana at a press conference in Accra.
He said Reverend Monsignor Angkyier until his present appointment was the Priest in charge of Counseling and Therapy Centre in Damongo, Preacher of Retreats and Facilitator of Workshops in Human Development from 2004 to date.
Archbishop Kalenga said the new Bishop had also been the Diocesan Coordinator of Ongoing Formation for Priests and Religious from 2000 to date and the Second Vicar General of the Diocese of Damongo.
He explained that with his new appointment Reverend Angkyier also becomes the Second Bishop of Damongo Diocese, which had been without a Bishop for the past two-and-a-half years since the Former Bishop Most Reverend Philip Naameh was transferred and the naming of a new "shepherd" would enhance progress of the church in the Diocese. Archbishop Kalenga called on people in the Diocese to receive the appointment with gladness and cooperate to give the new Bishop all the support to enable him to promote the Gospel and other works in the Diocese.
Curriculum Vitae of Monsignor Peter Paul Yelezuome Angkyier
Monsignor Peter Paul Yelezuome Angkyier was born on 26th November 1961 in Nandom, Upper West Region. He is the son of Sylvino Domekyere Angkyier and Victoria Bekpar.
Young Angkyier did his Ordinary Level at Saint Charles Secondary School in Tamale and Advanced Level at Tamale Secondary School. He continued his philosophical and theological studies at Saint Victor's Major Seminary in Tamale (1985-1992).
He was ordained priest on 15th August 1992 at Our Lady of Annunciation Cathedral, Tamale. With the canonical erection of Damongo Diocese in 1995, he was transferred there and became member of the local clergy. The following are the assignments which he held. 1992-1993 - Assistant Priest and Youth Chaplain, Martyrs of Uganda Parish, Bole.
1993-1994, Priest in charge of Saint Anne's Parish, Damongo and Local Manager of Catholic Schools, Saint Anne's Parish.
1994-1996, Chaplain to the English Speaking African Students' Community, Archdiocese of Vienna, Austria.
1996-2000, Studies in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychology, Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome.
1999-2000, Therapist and Counselor, Institute of Psychology, Rome.
2000-2003, Lecturer and Spiritual Director, Saint Augustine's Major Seminary, Tamale Diocesan Vocations Team leader, Priest in charge of Gurugu, outstation of Holy Cross Parish, Tamale.
President, Damongo Diocesan Priests' Association (2001-2003). 2000-2009, Vicar General of Damongo Diocese.

Monsignor Peter Paul Angkyier was the second Vicar General of the Diocese of Damongo. With his new appointment, he also becomes the second Bishop of Damongo Diocese.
