Veep AU extra-ordinary summit on Libya

Accra, Ghana - Ghana’s Vice President John Dramani Mahama will attend the extra-ordinary summit of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, this week, according to an official statement issued in Accra on Tuesday. The two-day summit is expected, among other things, to deliberate on the state of peace and security on the continent, especially the road-map to the peaceful resolution of the political crisis in Libya. The AU has called for an immediate ceasefire in Libya, the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, protection of foreign nationals, suspension of NATO air strikes and a dialogue between the government and rebels to facilitate a political settlement.

However, the bombing, which has claimed many lives, including the son and grandchild of the Libyan leader Moammar Kadhafi, has rather been intensified and has been targeting the compound of the Libyan leader.

NATO’s target now seems to be regime change, as it continues to aid the rebels in their quest to oust Kadhafi.
