Veep admonishes parents to put fear of God in children

Kumasi, Sept. 4, GNA - The Vice-President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has admonished parents to endeavour to put the fear of God in their children during their formative years.

He said the youth, being a strategic human resource base of the nation should be trained in both the physical and spiritual aspect of life to enable them to appreciate patriotism and the need to be responsible citizens.

"An indisciplined youth remained an obstacle to the aspirations and socio-economic development of the nation and therefore, behoved the citizenry to change this trend," he said.

Alhaji Mahama gave the advice in a speech read on his behalf at the 13th annual celebration of the Ashanti regional branch of the Tijaniya Muslim Movement at the Central Mosque in Kumasi on Saturday. The celebration, which coincided with the 105th birthday of the late Sheikh Ibrahim Anyars, a pioneer of the Movement, was held under the theme, "Peace and Tolerance among Muslims".

The Vice-President pointed out that the various Muslim sects should strive to bury their differences if they were to demonstrate Islam as a peaceful religion.

He said since the Prophet Mohammed brought peace and not confusion, it behoved all well-meaning Muslims to toe the line of peace. Sheikhs Yahaya Ameen and Mohammed Ameen Bomba, both Islamic scholars, stressed the need for all Muslims to live in peace.
