Veep calls for new focus towards achieving MDGs

Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, has called for new strategies that would focus on achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

He said considering the prevailing conditions across the continent, there was the need for a shift in effort and a much deeper sense of commitment in advancing the eight MDG goals following the adoption of the United Nations Millennium Declaration.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur said this when he met the 26 Heads of the various United Nations (UN) Agencies in the country on Monday in Accra.

He extended the gratitude of Ghanaians to the agencies for being supportive of governments over the years and called for similar support for the government of President John Dramani Mahama.

Ms. Ruby Sandhu-Rojon, UN Resident Coordinator, congratulated President Mahama for successfully gaining the mandate of the Ghanaian people for the next four years.

She said she trusted the Mahama administration's ability to deliver upon the promises made to Ghanaians.

Ms. Sandhu-Rojon said the UN would continue to work closely with the government to achieve a drastic reduction in poverty.
