Veep charge political parties to debate issues

Abeadze Dominase (C/R), Aug.27GNA-Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has charged political parties and their followers to debate issues and avoid insults and character assassinating of their opponents.
He therefore called on the electorates to select people who have the strength and character to serve their constituents and the country as well as promote the unity of Ghana.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur was speaking at this year's Abeadze Ahobaa Kesse festival of the Chiefs and People of Abeadze Dominase in the Mfantsiman District of the Central Region.
This year's celebration which is on the theme: "20 years of Inspirational Leadership" also marks the 20th Anniversary of Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, Omanhen of Abeadze Traditional Area.
The celebration is also to take stock of the past and to look forward to a future of economic and social progress.
The colourful durbar was attended by some Political leaders, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament (MPs) as well as Abeadze citizens across the country.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur also urged Ghanaians to access political parties, their candidates and programmes to enable them make informed choices in the December elections.
He reminded the leaders of various political parties to show commitment to the peace and stability of the country.
He called for incident free campaign conducted in an atmosphere of competition as well as to ensure the peace and security of the country.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur commended Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII for his great leadership qualities by bringing development to his people and ensuring peace and stability in the Abeadze Traditional Area over the past 20years.
"Leadership is service to the people and each leader takes credit for the development that he brought to the people during his reign"
He urged chiefs in other parts of the country to emulate his sterling qualities by working to ensure peace in their traditional area.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur also informed the gathering that the request by Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII for government to absolve the Abeadze State College into the public school system is being worked on by the Ministry of Education
Mr Kweku Richet Hagan, Central Regional Minister also commended Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII for his servant leadership style which he said brought progress to his people.
He expressed delight support Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII in his developmental agenda to improve education, health and roads in the traditional area.
Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII on his part charged politicians and their supporters to be circumspect in their utterances and actions in the upcoming elections.
He said elections are not wars and it is therefore incumbent on all Ghanaians to ensure a peaceful and smooth environment, especially during the elections and the period thereafter.
Later, Vice President Amissah-Arthur inaugurated the Abeadze State College building and the Community Centre built for people in the area by Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII at separate ceremonies.
