The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Abuakwa South constituency has denied allegations especially by Eastern Regional Minister, Victor Smith and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the party’s flag bearer did not do anything for the people of Abuakwa when he was their Member of Parliament (MP) for 12 years.
At a press conference held in Kyebi last Monday, NPP Communications Director in the constituency, Julius Okyere said Akufo-Addo’s leadership as MP for the area greatly transformed the lives of many.
He said Nana used his own money, as well as his share of the Common and HIPC funds to undertake a number of projects like educational infrastructure, health facilities and roads in the constituency. “Abuakwa South constituency under Nana Akufo-Addo has seen many development projects,” he said.
According to him, Nana built over 20 six-unit classroom blocks and provided health centers for the constituents. “Nana built six-unit classroom blocks at Adadientem, Bomposo, Ntabea, Abesim Yeboah, Asiakwa Salvation School, Kyebi Zongo Islamic and Asafo Zongo Islamic. He also built teachers’ bungalows at Ahwenease and Kwasi Komfo.
He extended electricity to communities such as Bonsu, Adadientem, Kyebi Habitat, Apedwa New Town, Potroase, Okanta, Ntabea, Kwasi Krakye, Bomposo and Apapam. Nana Akufo-Addo also helped to construct the Kyebi-Apapam, Apapam-Larbikrom and Odumase-Okanta roads and a bridge over River Bonsu.”
According to the communication director, the NPP flag bearer provided 12-unit classroom blocks for Abuakwa State College and Kibi Senior High Technical School. He noted that he also constructed 10-seater KVIPs for Amanfrom, Asiakwa, Asafo, Asikam and Apapam adding that all these projects were there to be verified.
According to him, the former MP was able to secure financial assistance from Ghana’s former ambassador to Germany, Grant Kesse to renovate the Apedwa Health Center and also provide staff accommodation. “Nana Akufo-Addo was able to secure support for the rehabilitation of the Akyem Maase Health Center while CHPS compounds were built at Kwasi Komfo, Bomponso and Apapam,” he noted.
Mr. Okyere said Akufo-Addo helped construct 107 boreholes in about 55 communities including Maase, Asafo, Pechi, Tontro, Obodanse, Osiem, Sokode, Juaso and Kyebi Low Cost through part payments under the Community Water and Sanitation Agency’s EVORAP projects. He added that most of the projects that the NDC was boasting about were either started or undertaken by the NPP government.
“The NDC has no record in Abuakwa South and Abuakwa North so the regional minister must not waste his energy to discredit Nana Akufo-Addo,” he said stressing the NDC will lose badly in the two Abuakwa constituencies.
