The #StopGalamsey and #FreeTheCitizens protest has finally come to an end.

The final and third day of the protest was marked by emotional and intense moments.

At the Independence Square in Accra, protesters gathered in large numbers to make their voices heard against illegal mining and to demand the release of their fellow activists who had been detained.

The day began with a march that started at Okponglo, at Legon and moved through some principal streets of Accra.

The protesters carried placards which had inscriptions like “We need water,” “Stop galamsey now,” and “Akufo-Addo, let my people go,” emphasising their urgent calls for action.

The day was filled with chants, extensive energies and patriotic songs to amplify their messages on galamsey.

Despite a heavy downpour, the crowd remained, honouring those arrested and demanding their immediate release.

The #StopGalamsey protest was a group of Ghanaians aggrieved by the destruction of water bodies by illegal mining activities, calling on the government to take action to resolve the issue.

The demonstration lasted for three days, spanning from October 3 to 5, 2024.

Some protesters were arrested by the police and are awaiting a hearing in court to determine their fate.

Religious leaders, political figures, and state institutions have all added their voices for the galamsey menace to end.

The Organised Labour has served notice that it will embark on a strike on October 10, 2024, if the government fails to respond to the calls.
