The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says even though the December elections will be closely contested, violence that normally characterizes such elections could be avoided if all parties play their roles responsibly.
Closely contested polls have often come along with agitations which sometimes lead to violence.
This has been shown to be possible even in advanced democracies such as the United States.
But speaking at a press soiree, Nana Addo said vigilance on the part of stakeholders especially the media can help forestall any possible acrimony.
"We want this election to be conducted on a very high plane, first of all let it be peaceful...that it will be fair, transparent and without any incident of violence.
"That is what the Ghanaian people are expecting and we hope that you [the media] can help the Ghanaian people achieve this goal".
