The Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has stated that the newly launched long-term development plan for Ghana, dubbed "Vision 2057: Long-Term National Development Perspective Framework," would be a game-changer in the country’s quest to resolve its unemployment challenge.

Speaking at the launch of the development plan, Dr Kodjo Esseim Mensah-Abrampa said the new plan would help provide the teeming youth of the country with the required skills to meet the country’s human resource needs.

He added that Vision 2057 would also ensure no Ghanaian is left behind, as it aims for all-inclusive growth.

"The purpose is that we prosper as a country but make it inclusive. And there are specific areas that we are looking at; we are looking at tackling the issue of youth unemployment.

"This is an issue; we have looked at it in the long term because we need to match the needs of the private sector, the needs of the public sector, as well as, the skills and the knowledge we need to provide. And also, the ability of our youth to be able to do that," he said.

He added, "We are coming out with specific, what we call the human capital development strategy, with broad strategies as to what we can do to complement this process that we are proposing."

The framework, which was prepared by the NDPC, was jointly unveiled by the former chairman of the Committee of Experts that drafted the 1992 Constitution and paramount chief of Asokore Asante in the Ashanti Region, Nana Dr S K B Krobea Asante, and a former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo.

The Vision 2057, which was conceptualised after COVID-19, would serve as a guiding framework leading Ghana through the next phase of the country’s development process.

It outlines a comprehensive strategy centred around key drivers of transformation, including:

• Achieving and sustaining macroeconomic stability

• Fostering an empowering culture of social cohesion

• Ensuring peace, security, and effective public institutions

• Enhancing human capital development and productivity

• Advancing science, technology, and innovation

• Implementing sustainable infrastructure and clean energy solutions.
